The Trevi fountain is probably the most famous fountain in the world. Every day, about 3000 euros are thrown into it, as people make their traditional wish by tossing a coin over their shoulder.
Turns out, you don’t just get your wish, but a little bit of good karma as well. The coins that people throw into the fountain are collected every night and given to a charity called Caritas.
The main cause that they spend this money on is on a supermarket program that gives Rome’s needy essential items. They get a card that gets topped-up every so often so that they can redeem it for groceries at a supermarket in Rome.
